L\u2019un d\u2019eux est la ferraille m\u00e9tallique. Les quantit\u00e9s typiques se situent entre 20 000 et 30 000 Mg pour une centrale nucl\u00e9aire de 1 000 MW. Quelque 25 % des d\u00e9chets peuvent \u00eatre r\u00e9utilis\u00e9s dans l'industrie nucl\u00e9aire. Toutefois, sa structure poreuse permet d'envisager l'utilisation du graphite comme matrice de d\u00e9chets stables \u00e0 long terme dans l\u2019optique de leur \u00e9limination d\u00e9finitive. Les phases aqueuses peuvent p\u00e9n\u00e9trer dans le syst\u00e8me poreux et les radionucl\u00e9ides absorb\u00e9s en surface seront dissous.<\/p>\n<p>L'IGM a toujours des coefficients de conductivit\u00e9 thermique similaires \u00e0 ceux du graphite. De ce fait, l\u2019augmentation de la temp\u00e9rature au centre de l\u2019IGM est n\u00e9gligeable.<\/p>\n<p>Ce probl\u00e8me est r\u00e9solu avec l\u2019IGM gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 son syst\u00e8me de pores ferm\u00e9s. L'IGM a une densit\u00e9 sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 99 % de la densit\u00e9 th\u00e9orique et de ce fait une porosit\u00e9 n\u00e9gligeable. Ainsi, l'IGM repr\u00e9sente une matrice stable \u00e0 long terme et r\u00e9sistante \u00e0 la lixiviation pour les d\u00e9chets radioactifs enrob\u00e9s.
